Nathan Schneider

Professor of Media Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder, journalist, and leading thinker on cooperative governance, internet culture, and platform democracy. Author of Everything for Everyone: The Radical Tradition That Is Shaping the Next Economy (2018) and Roadmap for an Enlightened Internet (forthcoming). Co-author of the “Modular Politics” paper (with Primavera De Filippi and others, 2021).

Schneider is a key voice linking the cooperative tradition to the Web3 governance space, arguing that decentralized communities must actively cultivate democratic accountability rather than assume it emerges from technical decentralization alone. His essay “Notes on Old Religion for New Network Sovereigns” (EUI, 2024) draws on religious community traditions to inform governance design for Network Nations. His concept of “exit to community” — converting platform companies to user ownership — is relevant to the commons and self-governance principles of Network Nations.
