Primavera De Filippi
Research Director at CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and Faculty Associate at Harvard Berkman Klein Center. Co-host of the Network Nations podcast series alongside Felix Beer, and co-author of the Network Nations essay. A leading scholar on blockchain governance, digital commons, and functional sovereignty.
Her academic work includes the books Blockchain and the Law (with Aaron Wright, 2018) and Blockchain Governance (MIT Press, 2024, with Reijers and Mannan). She is part of the Blockchain.gov European research project, which frames the Network Nations series. Her thinking draws on institutional theory, commons scholarship, and the practical governance of decentralized communities.
The concept of Network Nations emerged organically from her years of research on intentional communities, cloud community theory, blockchain-based virtual nations, and translocal governance — catalyzed by a reaction to Balaji Srinivasan’s The Network State.
